Best-selling author David McCullough featured at BYU forum Sept. 27

Author of "John Adams," "Truman," "1776"

David McCullough, best-selling author of “John Adams,” “Truman” and “1776,” will speak Tuesday, Sept. 27, at 11:05 a.m. in the Marriott Center for a Brigham Young University forum.

A live broadcast will be available on KBYU-TV (Channel 11), KBYU-FM (89.1) and on campus in the Joseph Smith Building auditorium and the Varsity Theater in the Wilkinson Student Center. For rebroadcast information, visit byubroadcasting.org.

“We are delighted to welcome David McCullough to campus,” said BYU Academic Vice President John S. Tanner, “particularly as it helps BYU honor the new federal observance of the anniversary of the U.S. Constitution.”

McCullough is twice winner of the National Book Award and the Pulitzer Prize. His “John Adams” hit The New York Times bestseller list at No. 1 and remained on the list for more than a year.

His most recently published book, “1776,” tells the intensely human story of those who marched with George Washington in the historic year the Declaration of Independence was signed.

Edwin Yoder in The Washington Post wrote, "If nations appointed historians laureate, David McCullough would surely be ours."

He has been honored for his work by the National Book Foundation Distinguished Contribution to American Letters Award, the National Humanities Medal and the New York Public Library's Literary Lion Award. He is past president of the Society of American Historians. In addition, he has been elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and has received 38 honorary degrees.

McCullough has been an editor, essayist, teacher, lecturer and familiar presence on public television as host of “Smithsonian World” and “The American Experience” and narrator of numerous documentaries, including “The Civil War” and “Napoleon.” He also narrated the major motion picture “Seabiscuit.”
